For those of you who have been shaded from the world of technology for the past few years, Facebook has all but taken over the internet. You can’t visit a site these days without seeing an ‘Add This To Facebook’ button.  We can’t just view something ourselves, we have to share everything with our friends. Of course, some sites require you to login to participate in discussions or share information. Who has two minutes to spare going through a lame registration process… enter Facebook Connect, an amazing service that is widely implemented, but minimally used, Facebook Connect allows users to avoid signing up to websites by using their Facebook creds instead.

Some of you are nodding in agreement and have been using the service since it’s inception, but many people still don’t know what the service is. Basically, a website implements Facebook Connect into their website using fancy magic and high tech wizardry to allow users to login to their sites quickly and easily. For instance, if you stop by BorrowMe and click the Connect With Facebook button found on our site, you will be prompted to enter the email and password you use on Facebook. At this point you are notified that you will be able to interact with your friends on our site as well as Facebook, COOL!

Don’t freak out though, we don’t actually retain any of this information, it’s all stored at Facebook. When you login, Facebook tells us that you are logged in and that we should give you access to our site too. BAM, you are now a member of BorrowMe! But that’s not all. Because you logged into our site using Facebook you can grab your Facebook picture to use on our site as well, this way your friends will be able to identify you quicker if you invite them to stop by.

You’re probably thinking, wow, whoopee, I can login with my Facebook login information, so what? Well, it gets better! When you post a Wish or an Item to BorrowMe, you can easily share these Items (or Wishes) on your wall for your friends to see. Many of us don’t know what our friends have or what they are looking for unless they specifically ask. Posting to your wall will give your Items and Wishes more exposure.

If you’re thinking about joining but can’t be bothered with signing up, then our Facebook Connect is for you! Come check us out. If you have any questions or comments, we would love to hear from you.
