BorrowMe on Dragon’s Den
Ok – we had our shot on the CBC Dragon’s Den. It looked something like this:
- 2 months of prep;
- 1 long airplane trip
- 12 hours waiting to shoot (outside in the heat)
- 5 minutes in makeup
- 2 minutes in front of the Dragons
- 4 no’s, and 1 ‘interesting idea – but no’.
I appeared very early in the show’s lifespan, and in BorrowMe’s as well. They had not quite worked out all the details like – who is best to appear (not web ideas – you can’t ’see’ them), and we had not yet built it out completely.
Clearly, it was the wrong fit, but it was fun to see how it all comes together, albeit a bit frustrating in the end.

That is so awesome… thanks for sharing this. My husband and I have a website idea and I was thinking of making an application to the show but like you at the time don’t have the site built.
Would you recommend than to join the show if you have the idea ready and working?!?

sorry here is the continued question…
to have the site built and ready in order to make an application to the show.

Sherley,
It depends on your goals. With something built – the exposure can help you promote it. Your idea will already be appealing to the Dragons.
I learned that they really like to hedge their risks with ideas that are proven, active businesses that just need a shot in the arm to go mainstream.
Ours was not proven, and therefore they questioned the very premise.
In the end – it was an interesting experience. I hope that helps!
